Copycat sellers had built their own ASINs around the brand's imagery and copy, ranking on the searches the brand had earned. Clearing them recovered traffic the brand had been generating for competitors.

The challenge

These were not other sellers on the brand's listing — they were separate products on separate ASINs, built from the brand's own product photography, bullet structure and even a paraphrase of its A+ copy, sold at roughly half the price by sellers the brand had never heard of.

The effect on search was severe. Nine near-identical pages spread across the same keyword set, so the brand's own listing competed against its own images for the terms it had spent years ranking for. A shopper comparing them saw what appeared to be the same product at two prices and drew the obvious conclusion. And because the copies were genuinely worse devices, their reviews taught the category that this class of product is unreliable — a reputation the brand then had to argue against on its own page.

Our approach

Enforcement is only effective if it is systematic and paired with differentiation.

  • Image and copyright registration in order first, so every takedown request rests on a documented right rather than an assertion.
  • A weekly monitoring routine rather than reactive complaints — new copies typically appear within days of a takedown, and the response has to be equally routine.
  • Photography rebuilt as something harder to steal — the brand's product shown in identifiable branded context that a copycat cannot reuse without an obvious violation.
  • Listing differentiation — the features the cheap copies do not have made explicit, so the two products stop looking interchangeable to a shopper comparing thumbnails.

Inside the ad account

The results

Eight of the nine copies are gone, organic share of category searches rose from 12% to 19%, and revenue nearly doubled.

The pricing effect is the part brands underestimate: with the near-identical half-price pages removed from the comparison set, the brand raised its average selling price 19% without losing conversion. The one remaining copy is a manufacturer with a legitimate design claim, which is precisely why the enforcement had to be documented rather than aggressive — a rejected takedown is a lost month.

“They were our photos, our bullets, and a worse device. The search page didn't care, which is why we had to make it a weekly routine instead of a lawsuit.”
