What Amazon brand protection covers
Amazon brand protection is the ongoing work of finding sellers and listings that misuse your brand on Amazon, such as hijackers, counterfeits, infringing copies and unwanted edits to your detail pages, and dealing with them through Brand Registry and Amazon's other enforcement tools. We do that work for brands that sell on Amazon under their own trademark.
The service fits established brands doing $500k–$30M a year on Amazon that are enrolled in Brand Registry or getting there. Brands usually call us after a lost Buy Box, a run of one-star reviews that mention fakes, or a title and main image that changed although nobody on their team touched them.
It also protects the money you spend on growth. Ads from Amazon PPC management and a better listing from creative and content send shoppers to your detail page, and a hijacker holding the Buy Box takes those sales.
The threats we handle
Each threat shows up differently on your ASINs and calls for a different tool.
| Threat | How it shows up in your account | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Listing hijackers | A new seller appears on your listing, often below your price, and the Buy Box moves to them | Identify the seller, test-buy when the units look suspect, and report counterfeit or infringing offers through Brand Registry |
| Counterfeits | Reviews describe different packaging or quality, and returns go up | Collect evidence and report through Report a Violation or Project Zero; assess Transparency for products that keep getting copied |
| Unauthorized resellers of genuine stock | Sellers you never supplied offer real units, often from diverted stock | Gather what you need to trace the leak and tighten distribution; Amazon won't remove genuine units only because the seller is unauthorized |
| Unwanted content changes | Title, images or bullets change without your team editing them | Restore your content through Brand Registry and open a case with Amazon when the change keeps coming back |
| Copycat listings | Separate listings use your brand name, photos or packaging design | Report trademark and copyright misuse; patent questions go to your attorney |
| Complaints against you | Your own listing is taken down after another seller files an IP complaint | Prepare the appeal in Account Health with your documents and bring in your lawyer when the dispute is legal |
The Amazon tools we work with
Brand Registry
Most other protection tools depend on it. We check that your brand controls the content on its ASINs, that the right people have access and that at least two of them hold administrator rights.
Report a Violation
Trademark, copyright and counterfeit reports filed with the evidence Amazon needs: ASINs, seller IDs, test-buy photos and the rights being infringed.
Project Zero
For eligible brands, automated protections built from your logos and trademarks plus self-service counterfeit removal. We use removal only with evidence, because misuse can cost a brand its access.
Transparency
Unit-level codes that Amazon checks before an enrolled product ships. We help you decide whether the per-code cost pays off and plan the labeling rollout with your manufacturer.
IP Accelerator
For brands without a trademark, Amazon's IP Accelerator connects them with vetted IP law firms, and an application filed through one of them opens Brand Registry protections before the mark registers.
Listing monitoring
Regular checks of offers, sellers and content on the ASINs that carry your sales, so a new hijacker or an edited title gets noticed early.

How we handle brand protection
- 1
Audit the brand on Amazon
We review your Brand Registry setup, the sellers and content on every active ASIN, and any IP complaints filed against you.
- 2
Set up monitoring
We start watching offers and content on the ASINs that carry most of your sales.
- 3
Collect evidence
For each problem we record the seller, the ASIN, dates and screenshots. When we suspect a counterfeit, a test buy shows what the shopper actually receives.
- 4
Use the right tool
Content gets fixed through Brand Registry, infringement goes to Report a Violation or Project Zero, and a distribution leak goes back to you with the evidence.
- 5
Follow every case through
We track each report to an outcome and check whether the same seller returns under a new account.
- 6
Hand legal work to your lawyer
When a case needs a cease and desist letter, a trademark filing or a lawsuit, we pass the evidence to your IP lawyer and keep working the Amazon side.

Who it's for, and where a lawyer comes in
Brand protection on Amazon starts with owning the brand: a registered trademark or a pending application, and the brand name on your products or packaging. It suits brands doing $500k–$30M a year on Amazon (most of our clients sit between $1M and $5M) that are losing sales to other sellers on their own listings or want to keep that from starting. Resellers and wholesalers are not a fit, since only the rights owner can enforce rights in a brand.
What we don't do
We are not a law firm and we don't give legal advice. Trademark searches and filings, cease and desist letters, patent opinions, disputes with other sellers and lawsuits stay with your IP lawyer. We work alongside them: we collect the evidence on Amazon (seller IDs, ASINs, test-buy records, the history of every report) and hand it over in a form they can use.
We also can't make Amazon act on a fixed timeline, and Amazon's tools won't remove sellers of genuine products only because you never authorized them. When real stock leaks onto Amazon, the fix sits in your distribution agreements, and we give you the evidence to find where the leak is.
How we charge for brand protection
The fee depends on scope: how many brands and ASINs need watching, how many marketplaces you sell in, and how much enforcement the account needs at the start. We walk through exact numbers on the discovery call, after we have looked at the account.
Some costs sit outside our fee and are paid by you directly. Amazon charges per Transparency code, and trademark filings and legal work are billed by your lawyer. Enrolling in Brand Registry costs nothing.
Brand protection can run on its own or next to full account management; ask on the call how the two fit together. To see where your account stands first, start with a growth plan.
Agency, in-house or brand protection software?
| Agency | In-house | Brand protection software | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | A fee set by scope | Salary and tools, or part of someone's existing job | Monthly subscription |
| What it covers | Monitoring, evidence, reports to Amazon and a handoff to your lawyer | Whatever the person has time for | Detection and alerts; some tools also file takedown requests |
| Strength | People who know which Amazon tool fits which problem | Knows your products and distributors best | Wide coverage across large catalogs and sites beyond Amazon |
| Main risk | Weak links with your legal and supply teams | Enforcement slips when the person gets busy with other work | Alerts pile up with nobody to act on them |
Handling it in-house works when the catalog is small and someone has time every week to watch it. Software suits large catalogs and brands that get copied on many sites, though a person still has to act on what it finds. An agency suits brands that want the Amazon side handled without hiring for it.
Amazon brand protection FAQ
Start by finding out what the hijacker is selling. If a test buy shows counterfeit or infringing units, report the offer through Report a Violation in Brand Registry, or remove it with Project Zero if your brand is enrolled. If the units are genuine, the IP tools don't apply and the fix is control over who sells your stock.
For most of it, yes. Report a Violation, Project Zero and control over your own listing content all depend on Brand Registry, which requires a registered trademark or, in many marketplaces, a pending application. Without it you can still send infringement reports through Amazon's public form, with far fewer tools behind them. Enrollment costs nothing; the trademark is a separate legal cost.
Often, yes. Many marketplaces accept a pending trademark application. Amazon's IP Accelerator connects brands with vetted IP law firms, and an application filed through one of them gives you Brand Registry protections before the mark registers. The filing is the law firm's job; we take over the Amazon side once you are enrolled.
Transparency puts a unique code on every unit you make, and Amazon checks the code before an enrolled product ships, so units without a valid code don't reach customers. It's worth it when counterfeits keep coming back after reports, or when a fake could hurt a customer. Amazon charges per code, and every unit of an enrolled ASIN needs one, older stock included.
Project Zero combines Amazon's automated counterfeit detection, a self-service tool that lets the brand remove counterfeit listings itself, and optional Transparency codes. It is open to Brand Registry brands that meet Amazon's eligibility requirements, which Amazon sets and can change. A brand that removes genuine listings with the tool can lose access, so every removal needs evidence.
It depends on the route. With Project Zero's self-service tool the brand removes a counterfeit offer itself, without waiting for Amazon. A Report a Violation filing goes through Amazon's review, and the time varies by case; clear evidence such as test-buy photos and the trademark being infringed makes a report easier to act on. Counterfeiters often return under new seller accounts, so checking again after a removal is part of the work.
Not through Amazon's IP tools. Amazon doesn't remove genuine products only because the seller is unauthorized, and filing counterfeit reports against such sellers can cost you Project Zero access. What works is control over distribution: test buys can show where stock is leaking, and your distribution agreements and your lawyer handle the rest. If the units turn out to be counterfeit or materially different, other options open up, and your lawyer can tell you which apply.
Your IP lawyer writes and sends cease and desist letters, because we are not a law firm. Our part is the Amazon evidence: the seller's storefront and ID, the ASINs, dates, test-buy records and the reports already filed. If you don't have an IP lawyer, Amazon's IP Accelerator is one place to find one.
Yes, on the Amazon side. We read the complaint in Account Health, gather your proof (invoices, trademark records, authorization letters) and prepare the appeal. If the complaint is false or the rights are in dispute, it goes to your lawyer, since getting it retracted usually runs through the person who filed it.
