What Is the Amazon Buy Box?
The Buy Box is the purchase panel on an Amazon product page with the Add to Cart and Buy Now buttons; when several sellers offer the same product, Amazon decides whose offer fills it and now calls it the Featured Offer.
Every seller of an ASIN shares one detail page, but only one offer is featured at a time. Shoppers who click Add to Cart buy from that seller, and the other offers sit behind a link to all buying options. Amazon does not publish the formula. Its guidance points to price including delivery, delivery speed, fulfillment method, seller performance metrics and stock.
If Amazon considers the price uncompetitive, for example well above recent prices or prices elsewhere, it may feature no offer at all. The page then shows only a See All Buying Options button, and conversions drop.
Why it matters for a brand
Most Amazon sales go through the Buy Box, and Sponsored Products ads generally serve only when your offer is the featured one. A reseller winning the Buy Box on your listing takes the sale and can stop your ads from showing.
Common mistake
Treating the Buy Box as a pure price war. Undercutting resellers erodes margin and rarely ends the problem. Brands usually get further by controlling distribution, keeping stock in FBA and using Brand Registry tools against unauthorized or counterfeit sellers.
