Parents asked the same forty questions about the monitor over and over, and the brand answered each one individually in the Q&A. Moving those answers into the page changed the sales rate.

The challenge

The customer questions on a baby monitor listing are not product questions, they are fear questions: does it work if the wifi drops, can anyone else see the feed, what happens in a power cut, how far does it reach through a wall, will the alert wake me.

The brand answered them conscientiously, one at a time, in a section most shoppers never open. Nine hundred accumulated questions were, in effect, nine hundred records of a shopper who arrived on the page, could not find the reassurance they needed, and had to ask — and the overwhelming majority of shoppers with the same worry simply left instead of typing it out. The listing itself was organized around specifications: resolution, battery hours, range in feet.

Our approach

We let the questions dictate the page.

  • All 900 questions coded into themes and ranked by frequency, giving a prioritized list of what the page fails to answer.
  • The top eight fears answered above the fold — in the bullets and the image stack, in the words parents used to ask.
  • Privacy and connectivity given their own A+ modules, since those two themes accounted for nearly half of all questions.
  • Fear-phrase keywords indexed — the anxious long-tail that shoppers type when the specification sheet has not reassured them.

The results

Conversion rose 62%, from 6.1% to 9.9%, and revenue grew 71% in six months.

New questions fell by nearly three quarters, which is the clean measurement of whether the page now answers what shoppers want to know. ACoS improved eleven points on the back of conversion alone — the same paid clicks, landing on a page that resolves the objection instead of listing a resolution in pixels. The content required no new photography and no product change: the answers already existed in the brand's own Q&A responses.

“Nine hundred people had told us exactly what was stopping them buying. We'd replied to each one and changed nothing on the page.”
